Farles

A quick and easy Irish soda bread you can make right on your stovetop.

Preparation Time:

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup buttermilk


Directions:

  1. Preheat a large, seasoned but ungreased large cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sift together all dry ingredients into a large bowl.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
  4. Mix to combine all the ingredients quickly. Do not overmix.
  5. Turn out onto a board and roll into a circle to fit your pan about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into quarters with a butterknife.
  6. Cook farles until golden brown on each side, about 8 minutes.
