Housewarming or New Marriage Blackberry Crumble Pie

This crumble pie is delicious, and very appropriate to give a new couple for a housewarming present, a newly married or engaged couple, or for new neighbors.

Preparation Time:

Ingredients:

Crust:
1 1/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tsp kosher or fine sea salt
4 oz (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
1/4 cup ice water

Filling:
4 cups fresh blackberries
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp freshly grated lemon zest
1 tsp fresh minced or grated ginger

Crumb:
1 cup flour (any type)
3/4 cup toasted walnuts
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
4 oz (1 stick) melted butter

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Make the pie crust:
In a food processor, combine flour, salt, and butter and process gently until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. If you do not have a food processor, combine in a large bowl and use two butter knives to "cut in" the butter into the flour and salt, until coarse crumbs form. Slowly add the ice water and process or stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overprocess. Turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and shape into a flat disc. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough into a circle with about a 10 inch diameter and fit into a 9 inch pie plate. Prick a few times with a fork and then bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. In the meantime, make the filling:
In a large bowl, combine blackberries, sugar, flour, lemon juice and zest, and ginger and gently stir. Add to cooled pie crust. Make the crumble:
In a bowl, mix together the flour, walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom (if using). Add the melted butter and mix with your (clean) hands, rubbing between your fingers until crumbs form. Generously sprinkle crumb mixture over berry mixture in pie plate. Bake for 30 minutes or until the crumb topping is golden brown. Let cool completely.

Additional Comments:

The blackberries are great for protection magick and for prosperity, both are perfect for a new house (or newly married couple). Walnuts promote good health (they are high in inflammation-reducing omega 3 fatty acids) and also are used in protection magick. Ginger increases money, power, and lust, and the cinnamon in the crumb topping increases the power of the ginger. The butter in both the pie crust and the crumb topping soothes conflict and makes communication easier (great for new couples) and by having butter literally in the bottom and top of the pie, it "surrounds" the other magickal properties, lubricating them so they flow easier! The cardamom and cinnamon promote feelings of love and lust. Just before pre-baking the pie crust (when pricking with a fork) I like to take a butter knife and lightly trace a symbol of protection or abundance into the center of the crust, for added magickal "oomph". I also like to say a prayer over the completed pie just before baking, and let the heat of the oven "seal" in my prayer for the recipients of the finished product. I hope you enjoy this pie as much as I do, and may it bring you (and your lucky recipients) much joy and abundance. May it be so!
