Oat Cakes

Here's a Scottish treat that has been adopted for many Pagan celebrations.

Preparation Time:


1 tsp baking powder
1 c flour
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp salt
2 c. quick oats
1/2 c softened butter, lard or shortening
1/2 c milk


  1. Sift together all dry ingredients except oats into a large bowl. Then mix in the oats.
  2. Cut in the fat.
  3. Add milk and mix well to form a dough ball.
  4. Break off small balls, roll and flatten to 1/2 inch thick
  5. Cook on a greased cast iron skillet over medium heat about 10 minutes each side or until golden brown

Additional Comments:

Serve warm with butter and honey or jam.
